Lets see ya top this. I can have this motor pictured below in two weeks built with off the shelf parts. Its a 738ci big block. 2300hp 1650ft/lbs torque. No blower no turbo, and no nitrous. Anyone can make hp with boost or nitrous. Anyone can tune a car to make hp with a blower and pump gas we have been doing it for years. Run real low CR #'s, back off your timing and tune your AF right to match and bingo.

This is where the tuner cars and ricers fail. They have to add boost or nitrous to get the big numbers.

If I was to use nitrous I could go with a smaller motor say a 565 and a pro fogger system pumpin out 1650hp. Maybe a 632 with a plate system running 2000hp.

Man. Your really trying to push him down aren't you. Jason is in no way saying your old school motors are a waste of time now. But just understand how our crowd is.

Now by all means I love hot rods. That is my true passion. I own a classic 55 chevy truck. I know how to do alot of the work myself. But in tthese days it is alot easier to mod my “ tuner ” only for the fact of having a complete car. It drives and handles nice. Has all the creature comforts and gets great has mileage.

Decent respectable power can be made with off the shelf parts now in days with 4 bangers. Just look into it more. Hell there are plenty ECOTEC powered cars running under 10 sec. The GM book even tells your how to make up to 1400hp.

Just be a little more understanding that we don't need big numbers in our light cars to go fast. I've seen mod SRT 4 's beat C6 ZO6's. Just give us some credit for working with what we got.

True dat, but I'd still rather have the Z06! C6 Z06 is the baddest performance car you can get dollar for dollar driven off the lot. Period. Stock to stock, mod to mod.

$70,000 = 500 HP Z06
$40,000 = 450 HP Shelby Cobra GT500

What was that about dollar per dollar. Don't get me wrong.........I love the Z06 but I have to disagree with it being the baddest performance car you can get for your money.

That dont count its a ford

The Z poops all over the snake. Plus try find a GT500 at MSRP. Dealers adding mark-up.

Same with the Z06. I'm just saying for the money is 50 HP worth $30,000? Then again the Z06 is a more well rounded vehicle versus the Cobra being a straight line monster. I love them both along with all American mucle so you can't go wrong with either. :D Then againg I'm kind of partial to Mustangs.

As far as questioning that hp. How much hp is a current nhra pro stock car pumpin? Arnt they limited to a 500ci motor?

NHRA is, but IHRA still uses mountain motors. When we ran IHRA Pro-mod in the early 90's the limit on cid was 710 but prostock was unlimited. As the old school guys would say "There is NO substitute for cubic inches!" This was from guys who were running 2-3 stages of nitrous in a 700+ cubic inch motor. I would love to see someone build a tube chassis with a HHR body on it with a mountain motor. Probably wouldn't be the most stable car at speed, but would look cool.

Actually if your looking for the most hp for your dollar the 98 Camaro A28 was probablt it. 350 hp for 20K. That is what I paid for mine 20K and it dynoed rear wheel 315hp that puts it over 350 at the crank.

Now the LS7 C06 can get 485 at the wheels. We have done it many times. That puts that motor way over the advertised 505 at the crank.

Horses aside why does a BMW z4 M series outrun a c6 z06 AND a Dodge Viper SRT10 around a track? Its been done and I have the program on dvd to prove it. And your big bad Shelby got its ass whooped on by a Lotus Elise with a Toyota 4 banger in it! How sad is that! :D

Only American car worth the time or money to me is the Ford GT. And its not even American! The only thing truly american on that car is the engine. The wheels are German, the brakes are Italian, the gearbox and body are British, the steering rack is from an Aston Martin Vantage, and the chassis was sorted out by a couple of guys from Lotus. The GT is the best American car on the market right now because ITS about as American as the "National Anthem"... which was written by a Brit.. The only thing you can rely on is "there is no replacement for displacement.."

Ya know what then? Take your ignorant 60 year old pushrod motor and drive as fast and as gas guzzling in a straight line as you want. I'll take my chances on a Turbo'd lightweight 4banger that will take a turn and acutally PASS a gas station. Its ignorant people like you that make our hobby look dumb. You stick with your old ways, old motors, and old theories. I'll take my new motors anyday of the week.

Now, I'm sorry if this offends anyone's 'patriotic' beliefs but I have tried to be civil. I have tried to have an intelligent debate on this and discuss things in a rational way. Trying to explain why the tuner market is the way it is. To get the bigger numbers from a smaller displacement engine you have to use forced induction. Forced induction IS indeed the replacement for displacement. Some people believe that marrying their cousins is a great way of life too. Are they wrong? Sure! Just because YOU do not understand it doesn't mean that you should shut us down as a true enthusiast. Waste of time you say? Fine. Then DONT waste YOUR time. Let us be. Let us have our 4, 5, and 6 cyl cars. Let us have our nitrous and forced induction. And when you decide to open your eyes to what the next generation of "hot rods" are then I'll see you at the drag strip? Will I be faster than you? Probably not. I own an HHR and I'm happy with what I have to work with. I dont have 20K let alone 2-3K to drop on my motor on a whim. I race what I have and I'm proud and in some cases LOOKED UP TO for what I've got. So, take your backwoods way of thinking and close mindedness someplace else OTHER than a serious discussion on improving performance of these vehicles; and keep your low opinions and slanderous thoughts to yourself. The rest of us would appreciate this.
