i did this 4 times since i had my car i have the 2.2 and i have 5 speed when i drive and hit it then switch to second fast my car goes thump then the tires skwell loud is that bad it seem fine now no vibration driving motor is still stright.

 

You might check your motor mounts. If anyone of them are weak or gone that could cause the motor to move and "thump" when shifting hard.

sounds like he doesn't know how to drive a stick too well. No harm meant, but it sounds like he's grinding his clutch.

 

Can't grind a clutch only gears. He's slamming it into 2nd and the engine is twisting due to torque, does sound like a bad mount. Had a 60 chevy years ago and when the engine rocked up and the air cleaner hit the hood because I had a broken engine mount, didn't have to shift gears only stomp on the gas.

 

That's what I meant... the gears....duh....

but a broken mount on such a new car? perhaps there's a recall or bulletin about that????

 

Didn't mean to come down on you, usually it is us old guys that have the brain lag where we say one thing but were thinking something else. You never know what may happened. Could be something else, since we don't know exactly what happened nor can we hear the noise. Guess we need to add sound to the forum, but then again, maybe no pounding the gears as to speak puts more torque on the mounts than when we shift easier, after all the HHR is not a race car like a lot seem to think. The SS will be set up more for that.

 

I have 2 kids, so I get alot of (pardon the term) Senior Moments. The kids make it hard for me to complete a thought at times....

I think what Arthur is trying to say is that he missed an upshift a couple times going into 4th gear and dumped it into 2nd. This in turn locked his wheels momentarily and overreved his engine. He floated his valve train and chevy had to replace his lifters once.

Artie is fairly new to a manual tranny and is learning from his mistakes the hard way.
