Ram air

Just a thought Ive been throwing around. I read some were that the Airaid intake seals it self against the hood, first off is this tue? If it does what im thinking is get this system and seal of the hole that hooks to the tube that brings in the cool air. Then add a hood scoop and cut out a hole in the hood creating a ram air system? Does this sound right, or am I just dreaming?

The Front is open, I have one. I just make it a little longer in the front with sheet metal and a old door seal gasket to seal to core support & grill and you have it. No hole in your hood. I also put a rain sock on the opened end for driving in heavy rain. The rain sock is from a motorcycle air filter that I cut in half. I am not good with pic. but I'll try

Cool air is a great thing. Ram air, for all practical purposes, doesn't exist below roughly half the speed of sound.

ok so instead of calling it ram air lets just say adding a functional hood scoop. Anyone happen to have any pics of an HHR with on or can photoshop one onto one?

For a retro look, you could try to rig a Cowl Induction flap at the top of the hood. Would be interesting to see where the majority of the air pressure is coming at the front of the car.

Definately looks intimidating and sharp. My idea was sort of like the late 60'/early 70's Malibu, or El Camino cowl induction, took air pressure of the high flow area at the base of the windshield and used to force induct the intake. Was more of a gimmick than anythig else but still looked cool. The Pontiac Trans Am and Grand Am GT cars are Ram Air aided, that might be another thing to look at, although the Grand Am RAmair was pretty worthless (not enough room for decent intake tubing, kind of like trying to breath through a flattened straw. Cj has a ram air system that looks pretty good on Shagy, http://*****************************...opic.php?t=167 I definateley thought of this with the WeaponR tube, but i think i am doing alright with the Airaid intake as is.

I want a shaker hood with vents on either side for aerodynamics. I think it would be very easy. Cut the right hole in the hood, then fiberglass a lid for the airbox that pokes up through the hood and seal off the factory intake from the airbox. I wonder how Mustang Mach 1's deal with rainwater?
