The title of this thread says, Cold Air Intake. Sorry, but what I see is an open filter sucking in hot engine compartment air.

its a work in progress George,
Hurst, the rubber OEM elbow is 2.5" the spectre is 3" but with the 2.5" insert

Revision 4 moved the filter away from the cam cover and heat and built a box arround it

It's all trial and error...the fact of the matter is that any intake without a tune is just there for sound and looks. I think it looked better over the valve cover...as firemangeorge pointed it...it's not really a cold air intake...even the way you have it now with the box it's not a cold air intake.

Ive got a trifecta tune lined up with a local guy, he seems to know what its all about, this current revision has been the best and seems to run great, wanted to get rid of the large plastic air box and the horrible pain in the but air filter, at this im happy and on a normally aspirated car the pipe will help but isn't apparently necessary for the tune.

The factory filter is a pita to get to no doubt...I checked mine for the first time a few weekends back...over 45k miles and the filter still looked great! Not bad for a factory paper filter!

Done some testing with different intake configurations and the best one I found was the one I'm running right now. I know it to be a true cold air system from the readings on my intake temp from the Scanguage II that I have mounted on the dash. Cruising down the highway the intake temp is only 3 degrees warmer than the temp displayed on the DIC. The filter is run behind the headlight and connected with a hose from Spectre , I used the MAF tube from the stock airbox. The mod cost me less than $50 and really made a noticeable difference before I had my tune done. Here's the link with a picture of my intake on post #16

With this intake and the tune it really woke the 2.2 up with a noticeable difference through out the whole powerband :twothumbs:
