Yes it's a MAF. Cut the tube off of the square box and keep the factory MAF as is, no reason to change it. A dremel and some time and you will have enough left to use a coupler on. That coupler leads to your pipe/tubeing and you route that where ever you want it. Add a filter of your style and choice somewhere and call it a day. All I'll be doing is the "pluming" of the 'CAI'. I'll leave the MAF alone. Match the inner diameter of the MAF section and run my pipe to one of my fenders, add my filter and call it a DIYCAI. Remember to have flexability in your piping, especially into your fender well. Give it pleanty of room to move with the motor.

This way you're not screwing with the ammount of actual airflow over your MAF or worring about the MAF being centered and straight which is where you can get issues. Repiping your intake won't cause issues.

Okay about the spectre filter setup. I recently bought a bunch of pieces to make you own. I was trying to make one for the Mazda. The quality of the parts is cheap. It feels like very cheap plactic. I dont know how well they would hold up over a long period of time. Cgs, airaid, gmpp, k and n, are all gunna deliver similar results. Each one has a different look though. I like the look of the airaid setup. But the cgs will give the cleanest look under the hood and get rid of that big box.

In reality, most intakes are plastic these days. It's just as easy to buy a metal turbo pipe kit w/ couplers off of ebay for $50 as it is to do the spector stuff. Of course you get more pieces in the kit. Besides, if it's not polished your looking for, you can paint it or wrap it in heat wrap. The posibilities are endless.

True a lot is plastic today. My airaid pipe is plastic but the feel is worlds apart from spectre.

I went with the stock air box with the side cut off, bought 2 AEM 90o elbows and had exhaust 2 1/2 inch welded, used Sears wet dry vac. nozzle just above the radiator, cold air from both sides, big change in performance, I had a CGS and then modified it to an 10 inch Edelbrock filter, very happy with the latest one modified stock air box.

I built mine using the MAF tube from my stock airbox and mounting a cone filter behind the headlight on the drivers side.I cut out the foglight cover to let more air in.Works great,no codes and cheap to build PS.If you make your own MAF tube, make sure it is the same ID as stock or else the engine doesn't run right

That's what I did with a slight variation for about 60 bucks. True cold air going in and a mean growl coming out. Clean and re-oil when you rotate tires.

The guy that ran socalhhr.com made this "chart" to sell a product. Don't put a lot of faith in it.

Guess which one he was selling?
