First let me say "Sorry" if there is a Thread already but couldn't find it - Yep used the search function. Anywho if you know a Link - Post it. I'd like to put a cold air intake on The HHR. It is a 2008 LS 2.2L - I'm looking for recommendations etc.....I was at Auto Zone today and saw they had alot of tubes and Parts to like make your own? Thanks in Advance - Got pics? - Lets see them too! Looking foward to hearing from all your suggegestions and recommendations etc....

 

There's a CGS, AirRaid and K&N made for the HHR's. Those are the main 3 and all are different in some way. Look'em up and decide if you like any of those premade expensive ones. If you don't or are cheap, make one for yourself. I believe some have cut the factory airbox after the MAF and connected different hoses/tubeing and made their own "CAI". I believe the MAF tubing is something like 2.75in ID so tubing/hose that size should work fine with an open element filter on the end......

Me, personally, it'll depend on what I find when it's time. If I can get a CGS cheap, I'll use the tubeing and make my own. If that doesn't happen, I'll just start cutting and make my own. I just can't see spendin' upwards of $200 for something that can be made at HomeDepot or Lowes for less than $30....

 

Yes there are many threads about this. I personally have the airaid intake. As far as the do it yourself id stay away. Better money spent to get one made for the car. My airaid works good. Power increase is hardly noticable if any. Gained a little in the higher rpm range. My gas mileage went up about one mile to the gallon. You get a nice growl from under the hood. I did it solely for looks. The stock system is pretty efficient. Honestly if your doing it for power save your money. I did mine for looks as i go to some car shows. The gmpp intake is probably the best intake but they are hard to find and fairly pricy.

There can be issues with making your own. The cgs is more of a hot air intake than anything. But still will deliver similiar results.

Thanks - I am alittle curious (noobbie) about that sensor with the plug coming from the tube - If people are making there own, what are they doing with this plug (Sensor)? Is that a MASS AIR FLOW Sensor?

 

It has to go into the new tube and at the right spot and angle. That's why it's better to go pre-made. Otherwise your idle & computer will be sloppy to say the least.
