ok so i have the 2.2 with my 1LT, i was wondering if there is anyway to get more hp without spending a ton of money, and what is the most hp i can get without doing anything too ridiculous?

 

more HP=more $$ just a fact of life. A lot more HP= a lot more money.

The obvious way to get a bit more HP would be to go to the 2.4 engine or better. That's why they exist! There are a lot of aftermarket modifications, such as cold air intakes and exhausts. However, each basic engine, from what I have been told, is pretty well designed. Given the costs, and risks, of aftermarket modifications you may wish to consider trading vehicles for either a 1LT with the 2.4 option, a 2LT which all have the 2.4, or the mother of all HP, the SS. I have no idea what it would take to swap out a 2.4 engine for a 2.2. Personally, I would rather trade cars and get a stock engine than do something that costly, and end up with a non-stock setup. That's why I started with a highly-optioned 2LT before adding anything else. I believe in starting with the optimal factory setup before grafting on modifications. For what you say you want to accomplish, I don't believe that any HHR with the 2.2 engine is a good substrate.

 

hey guys thanks for the input! im thinking about trying a airraid intake, and magnaflow cat system. that should give my lil 2.2 a little more bite!

 

CAI, catback, highflow cat, ingnition, chip...there are plenty of things to do. turbo and s/c are always options too, depending on depth of pockets :)

so you are trying to tell me that none of those (besides t/c or s/c) provide ANY better performance than stock parts? Do you have proof? Sure, one by itself might not do much, but all together? Come on man...why would they sell it then if it's nope, nope, nope, no way and are you kidding?
