09 2.2L-2.4L Engine swap.
 

I’ve lurked on this site for a while but this would be my first post.

I have a 2009 LT Panel with the LE8 engine. I would like to swap the LE8 for the LE5 or LE9 if possible. I just feel like the 2.4 would be a better platform for a engine build.

The question is... Is it possible?

-Both engines are equipped with VVT, therefore Presumably have the same wiring harnesses now. I’m just looking for confirmation of this.

- What else would be involved in doing something like this? I’ve heard of it being done several years ago on another form back before the 2.2 engines got VVT. But that took massive amounts of wiring work.

-I’ve looked everywhere for info on this but can only seem to find posts on trying to swap the 2.4L engine into a vehicle prior to the 2.2L getting VVT in 09.

Does anyone have any info or advice on this? Any help would be much appreciated.

Do you know what you are doing with automotive computers, do you have access to tis2web?

The harness is the same part number. I am pretty sure the programming is different, that may take some expertise.

Unfortunately I personally don’t have access to tis2web. However I have a few Mechanic buddies who said they’d help me out with this project. I’m a novice when it comes to car electronic/computers so I require help with all that.

I just looked up the harness part number my self shorty after I posted the initial time it is indeed the same. My guess is I would have to flash the PCM and install the programming from the LE9. I would also need to tune for everything done to the LE9 prior to install.

What can you do to VVT cams? That's all done in firmware.

When you install cams let’s say the comp cams ZZP is offering for the LE5/9. Would it not be advisable to tune for that after the PCM has been converted to run the LE9? I rather get most of the pcm stuff done in one shot is all I’m saying.

You might consider selling this one and buying an SS. Just a thought.

I talked to ZZP about going from a 2.2 to a 2.4 and there is some differences. You should call them. Getting the ECM off the 2.4 is a good idea. It can be done but.

There’s nothing you can do that can’t be done, just to much time on your hands.
Members have swapped in V8’s ,a blown 3800 V6, so yeah a 2.2 to a 2.4 , why not.
I’ve often wondered about a 2.4 block with 2.2 non VVT head in my 2007.
Hmm any improvement, more HP, could be, is it worth the time and trouble, nope!
