Cgs intake or K & N intake

I do not know what intake I want so I have narrowed it down to CGS and K& N because of the looks. Does anyone have any suggestions on which one they have or one someone else has.

Just go for the looks, whatever you like best.

CGS will lose some power (4-6 HP on actual dyno tests), since it's drawing hot underhood air, but IMHO it looks the best.

K&N stills draws its air supply from the stock fenderwell tube outside the engine compartment. If you like the look, go for it. I really suspect any claimed gains in HP though.

Having done quite a bit of testing and tuning, actually GM did a pretty good job on the stock intake, as ugly as it may be. However, it keeps intake temps low (good for HP!) and, despite any undocumented claims, offers no restriction to airflow, especially at the upper RPM range. Having logged MAP (manifold absolute pressure) values on numerous runs, the values DO NOT drop off in the upper ranges. If an intake / filter was restrictive, you would see manifold pressures drop with high demand.

IOW, go for what you think looks best!

I have the CGS and love it. I have heard some claims that it does not improve the HP as one might expect, but I dont believe it. I first switched to the Autolite plugs, and felt a nice difference. Next, I put on the CGS, followed by the IMCO muffler. Finally, I had the computer redone by TuneTime Performance. Using my Escort G-Timer, I got numbers that were much better than stock. They went from 17.63 1/4 mile times to 16.51 to 15.99, and that was getting onto a highway on a road that curved and was a little up hill. Projected HP is 213.

Like Jos said Gm has done a pretty good with these intakes on the 2.4, If I had to get one on the HHR it would be the K&N since it is still is a sealed box drawing in cold air.

I like the way the CGS looks and can't say that I'm unhappy with the performance.

Keep in mind that when an auto manufacturer designs a part it always is with a compromise. In order to have a quiet intake and exhaust that most people want, performance is sacrificed. In the same way, we stiffen up our cars to make it handle better, but ride quality is made worse.
