Chad....

enOoNmAI had routed his "cold air" around the 2.2 engine and down into the driver's side fog light recession, if I remember correctly. Worked real well for him and I don't believe he experienced any problems....although he may have rigged his filter in the fog light area.

W/ cold air intake systems that get sold today, they arent really sucking in "cold" air. the cgs and weapon r, stuff like that.. they are just open filters sitting inches from the motor thats producing hot air, so you may be sucking in more air, but its not necc much colder than the air your stock air system sucked in..

Chad- that has been an idea ive had for some time now, making the cold air intake n the fog light area.. biggest worrry is sucking up water n locking the motor up, my buddy did it on his car 6 months ago, needed tons of new internal parts, so thats why im weary of it. you can also get cold air from your fender wells....

i havent lookd yet, where does the stock black hose pull the air from that ties to our big box...?!?!

cowl induction

cut hole in cowl , put turndown 90 deg elbow inside. i had the top of my cowl off (easy to do) while looking for an interior leak- it looked like lots of room in there. maybe good idea for me , i would like to keep my fogs. the air may not be as cool as if mounted elsewhere, but not much difference. plus bragging rights to 1st one to do it ,and say they have cowl induction hhr. how to put filter (inline) may be tricky for any of these designs. maybe can just put it in the hole in the cowl and tube on the other side, hopefully the cowl cover will keep the water off the filter. i think it will work , but could be expensive if not.

I think I have a workable idea but I am running into two problems. 1, I can not find a short ram or something similar that has the mount for the MAF sensor. 2, I am also finding it difficult to find a replacement for the 90* elbow that mounts directly to the throttle body. I may be able to work with the OEM but I am trying to put together something that does not look like "southern engineering". Any ideas or sources I can try?

here is the best way to get cold air. the tire forces air in like a turbo.

is that the original air intake hole that you enlarged? did you remove any of the wheel well plastic before cutting? if not then how did you know how to stop before burning the plastic? also , do you have a plan on what you are going to put in that hole , to get all that air? thanks , for the pic.

oh i was joking. thats the hole i cut out after putting the airbags on. the tire comes that far up now. all the plastic is gone and the origional hole is what you can see in the bottom left of the pic. here is the "tub" i built to fill the hole.

now, that's a tire in the pic. you had me goin'. since you don't mind choppin up your hhr , you could try my idea , and cut hole in the cowl and have the 1st real cowl induction. you can tell us if it works.

The stock hole..

I followed the stock air hose into that firewall'ish cavity. I found the end of it and i really seems it sits in a stagnant air cavity. I looked upside down and inside out and could not find a proper inlet flow to the cavity. Does anyone know if you do pop the fog light cap, if it inlets fresh air to where the intake hose is??

does any one have a cross section or break apart from a service manual or just plain verify it??

Tanks

I have pulled the liner from the wheelwell. The hose feeds from a cavity behind/under the headlight. The cavity is not airtight so even with fog lights or the blanks inserted, there is plenty of airflow thru there.
