First oil change

My first oil change is courtesy of the dealer and is coming up soon. I purchased Mobile 1 as per the recommendations of this forum. The dealer is telling me that I should run regular motor oil like GM the first few oil changes to seat the engine. Does anyone have any thoughts on this, I was going to start it off right and use the Mobile 1....Thanks....

Use Mobil 1 as per GM's instructions.
Unless the dealer knows something the engineers at GM don't.
In that case he should inform them of his wisdom and maybe they'll adjust the official recommendation.

edit: They recommend Mobil 1 for the 2 liter turbo, I dunno about the other motors.
I'd say if you want to take the best care of it that you can then use Mobil 1 and the best filters you can get.
I used M1 & NAPA Gold for my 1st oil change at 4K

Per the M1 website you can start using it in engines at anytime and it won't affect anything.....but I dunno anything about what the dealership is telling you.

Years ago, engines required a break in period to "seat" so to speak.

Today with computer technology, tolerances are much tighter and there is no break in period. Hard to believe a dealership is telling you that..... Then again.

So if now represents 40% of oil life, at what percentage beginning to think to change?

I usually change mine between 33% and 25%. Some run it down to 10%... but I am not comfortable with that.

I usually pickup my supplies when I hit 10%, then change it on the first nice weekend I have free. My last one went down to 5%. Odds are you could run it through another cycle and it would still be good, at least thats what came up when I had an oil analysis done.

But what do the experts know.....

I've been .running M1 after the second oil change. #1 was a feebe from the dealer. I start getting oil at 30%. My last oil change was at 11,000 miles and DIC said 27%.

My thought is that the dealer can put any type of oil that they want if THEY make the car payments. Otherwise they need to do as asked.
