Hid Conversion
 

I would like to convert my lights to HID,has anyone else done this and can anyone suggest a good brand to buy.I would probably go with the 6000K,they have just a slight blue tint.I have seen some on Ebay at all different prices,but there seems to be some quality kits around $150 to $180.It seems to be a simple plug & play installation,can anyone shed some light on this subject for me ,thanks...

My HHR has a full retro-fit from an Infiniti. These plug and play kits that use our standard headlights have a ton of glare compared with a headlamp designed for HID output. You will blind on coming drivers with a plug-n-play kit. But to each their own.

The eBay kits that are plug-n-play are just that. They plug into the stock headlamp socket and replace that with a ballast and a HID bulb designed to plug into your headlamp. A couple of owners here have them.

However, I would never buy an HID conversion kit for these cars:

1. It's not necessary. Just buy some Silverstars.
2. The reflectors weren't designed for that type of illumination and you'll blind everyone coming at you.
3. If you think they're expensive to purchase, wait until you have to replace them. I can buy a lot of Silverstars for as much as four HID kits would cost over the life of the car.

I agree with the others. If you can't afford to have someone build you a full retrofit with Bi-Xenon projectors (about $1,200) then you shouldn't have HIDs.

A set of Silverstars will give you a nice white 4000K beam that will work with the stock reflector and you can find them everywhere. There are other Halogen bulbs out there that offer white or blue-tint light but you want to be careful and choose bulbs that are truly 55w/60w or you will burn the wiring and the little pin connectors in the wiring harness (I know from past experience).

^-- exaclty. Silverstars are going to be your best bet for your standard headlamps. Anything with a blue or other color filter on the actual bulb will decrease overall visibility by 50%-60%. Don't buy these "ricer" bulbs unless you only want the looks and NOT visibility.

I would assume the same place you get them here in America. An auto parts store.

the hid's are plug and play, the gen x kits on ebay have nice plug in harnesses too. i had silver stars in my ram and didnt like em. to each his own i guess i got some 10k kits ordered for my fog lights and headlights, hid's have a long life expectancy they will probably outlast the car as far as the bulbs go, the ballast is a different story
