IMCO T924 recomendation
I just got the Imco installed! Not very loud, but has a throatier sound to it. After getting quoted $100 and $75 for the install, I went to Muffler Man and they installed it for $30 w/ the original 2LT chrome tip welded back on!
The IMCO is 2.25 in and out. I have the Thrush Turbo 2.25 in and out also. I too used the stock LT tip. Looks great. my buddy has a Cobalt SS and he has a Cherry Bomb Turbo and they sound pretty much identical. Deep smooth tone, no trash can annoying rice rocket sound. No back fires, not as deep as a small block Chevy, but still sounds a lot better then stock if you wanting the performance tone but not load. Any GOOD muffler shop should be able to install most Turbo mufflers no problem since they all pretty much have the same oval shape as the IMCO and the length also. If you are quoted more then 45-50 bucks walk away, the install is not that hard and takes about 30 mins. I know the IMCO is the most popular and I'm not trying to discourage you from purchasing one. Just keep in mind most turbo muffles are designed the same. Just make sure it says it is a turbo. Not a Glass pack, or a chambered, or Straight through (i.e MagnaFlow, Flowmaster,DynoMax) which will be extremely loud and will decrease back pressure a lot more then a turbo muffler will(a little bit of back pressure is a good thing). Leave these for the big boys. Or if money is not an option, go with the CGS axle back system. As for a 2.5 inch system I have not seen. I'm sure IMCO makes a 2.5 or bigger. Remember bigger means deeper, but is also harder to bend because of the diameter of the pipe. Good luck on your search.
