LOUD a** muffler

I just put an Imco stainless muffler on the hhr. it was way louder than i had imagined. i even put in dynamat in the trunk which didnt help. 70 mph and up is pretty bad for long periods. anyone else had an Imco muffler put on withthe same result?

I like mine had mine on for around year and half. What tip you have on it? I have the muffler tip that came with the 2LT.

Flowmaster too

I put a Flowmaster 60 series on my 2.4 and have the same problem. I read on another thread about putting 2 glasspacks in line. I I was thinking about adding one in line with my Flowmaster.

Word from Flowmaster this week is that it, now, has a complete cat-back system for the HHR. I want to get one and test it.

My son tells me that if I think it's too loud then I'm too old

I want to go to a louder muff then stock, but don't want the interior drone. Some of the So.Cal. people have used a dynomax or dynaflow and like them. Mellow deep tone and no drone. There is a thread on it here some place started by mitzkitty.

I put an IMCO Turbo on our '06 about 2 years ago and I don't think it's that loud at all. In fact I'd hoped it would be just a bit louder! Even put one on my '96 Altima too. I still question whether any of these kinds of mufflers increase the gas mileage to any significant degree. I just like the sound.

Same here. I think the IMCO is pretty quiet. My setup has a Y pipe before the muffler going to the other side of the car with a collector and a plate (similar to Lake Pipes or dump tubes). I can increase the sound and reduce the back pressure by removing the plate completely, or by using a plate with holes in it. Without any plate the car is not too loud inside (by my standards, anyway, but I am told by people outside it is noisey. I generally use a plate with a few holes in it as a compromise).

Well...I ordered the Flowmaster system. I'll install that and a Green Filter.

My plan is to chassis dyno before and after then post the info, here.
