Just drove 300 miles from Chowchilla, Ca to Reno, NV,,
I drove west on hwy 152 to I5, then up to I80 in Sacramento all the way to Reno.. I filled just before leaving with Shell Premium. Drove 303 miles, parked in El Dorado parking garage. Went and filled up,checked mileage, put in 10.8 gallons, (3.49 in Reno, NV) 28 MPG

Ok, for the dense ones like me..

To hand calculate mileage:

Reset DIC trip meter

Fill tank

drive drive drive

refill, note gasoline pumped

divide gallons pumped by miles on trip meter?

OK folks... here's perhaps my final update:
  • Changed tire pressure from 32 to 36 psi
  • Changed from regular unleaded to premium unleaded
  • Added 5 ounces of acetone to the tank

Then we proceeded down to the same destination which this thread is based upon. When we returned, we filled up about 12 miles from home. The resulting mileage: 29.3 mpg. Interesting... this time DIC was reporting 26.6 mpg.

I don't know if the acetone made any difference or not; I know the tire pressure does, and there's plenty of data that shows the premium gas makes a difference too.

If anyone is interested in reading about acetone as a fuel additive, check out http://www.lubedev.com/smartgas/additive.htm.

265-305 miles to a tank(14.5 gal fill up each time) towing 1900 lbs plus another 200 in the cab... and the worst of the mileage was through the appalachin mts (im driving from ct to CA) i still have about 1300 miles to go... if someone is getting less than 325 a talk unloaded..something isnt right. oh im also tunned for use with 93 oct. fuel

The acetone thing was an interesting read. Just like GTOMike said it is loooooong. Maybe we ought to start a new thread about it???... I'm no chemist but if the claims are true, Definitely worth trying.

Well my 96 Saturn is totaly full of 87 octane and 4 ounces of 100% pure acetone so we will have to wait till I burn off this tank.It will be nice if it works but I will say no comment at this point as these stories don`t seem to pan out most of the time.
