Muffler suggestions

I have a 2007 chevy hhr 2.4l and would like it to have a nice sound to it when I drive. It is still stock no performance upgrades except for a drop in k and n filter.

So here's my story; I had a 2001 vw 2.0l and put a dynomax 17731 super turbo muffler on it and it sounded amazing. It had a good sound when you put the peddle down and was quiet when cruising on the freeway. On the otherhand I had purchased a 2002 toyota solara 2.4l after the vw and put a dynomax 17730 super turbo on it as well and it was quiet all the time not that roar the vw had, but it gave it good performance.

So this time I would like to put a muffler on that sounds like my vw did. My exhaust shop recommended the dynomax 17741 super turbo for ease of installation purposes because they feel there might not be enough space for the rectangular shaped mufflers.

I would much appreciate your input or video and sound clips of someone that has a dynomax super turbo on their hhr, thank you.

No they are just going to put it on, and if I didn't like it I would have to buy another one.

I would like to buy the muffler on my own and have it installed because I can find them much cheaper online. And by the way my hhr is the 2.4l Non Eco.

The stock muffler is pretty large. There are many replacements that will be much smaller, so space shouldn't be an issue.

Here's a Flowmaster HP2 Shorty beside a stock SS muffler. Big difference in size.

Wow that muffler is a huge difference in size. I would like to hear the muffler before I buy it but it's always tested on big v8's from the company. Does anyone have a video of there car muffler sound on an hhr that they are happy with.

I'm looking for a nice roar sound but no resonance on the freeway or loud cab noise when driving on a long trip, just when you step on the gas.

You should do what George told you, they sound even better in stereo. You described them perfectly, I would sugest the best stainless so they will out last the car.............

Here's the first attempt with the cheap Chinese mufflers....they were awful.

So I decided to order the dynomax 17741 super turbo muffler, it should get here next week I'll let you know how it sounds. This decision was based off of PMs and other posts on this site. Thank you for all your opinions. And when it's installed I will provide you with a video with sound.
