octane

Anybody had any problems using 87 octane in 2.4, purchased Sept. 07', most has been 87, know in larger engines you hear pinging, have not heard anything.

I run one tank of 87, one tank of 91...I usually top off at 1/2 tank. It seems to make a difference. But I'm sure it's just me making me happy. LOL

I've tried all of the octanes available locally. Didn't have any problems with any. However I did getter better mpg's and better performance with 91 & 93. I run 93 whenever I can (same price as 91).

I did the math, the better mpgs offset the cost difference, so for me, it's cheaper to run 93.

For instance, if I get 25 mpgs with 87 and 28 with 93, I can go about 45 miles farther per tank of gas based on a 16 galloon tank. That would be almost 2 gallons of 87 octane gas which would cost me $6. A tank (16 gallons) of 87 costs $48 @ $3 a gallon; 93 costs $51.20 a tank. So a tank of 93 octan costs about $3.20 a tank more to fill but the 93 will yake me farther so I save almost $s by running 93 octane.

I think my math is right and i'm not saying this would be true for everyone, but it is my observations after two years of driving my HHR. The higher the price of gas, the more I'll save since 91 & 93 are staying $0.20 a gallon more in price.

Yep, 93 here. Brand new vehicle, might as well treat it good from the start.
