Ram Air?
 

I was looking under the hood last night and I couldn't help but wonder if anyone has tried a functional ram air hood scoop yet. Maybe cut the top of the original air box open with a foam seal between the hood & the box?
Would engine rocking effect this much?
There seems to be plenty of room to work with.

I've thought about it as well, but don't know enough to see it thru. I think the layout on the car is prime for it. Let's hear from any forum gurus...

Actually A buddy and me were looking over the wife's car. We race FBodies an he races 8.50 sec index classes and I am on the verge of finally cracking 11's with a Street setup.

We were looking and figured to turn the elbow 180 deg and as long as the harness is long enough and put a K&N on the end of it, it should be fine. I really need to get into it this weekend but if I do it, I'll post results.

My ONLY concern was clearence. As for the grill its actually Ideal as its higher then what MOST CAI's place their filter (which is near the bumper and low to the ground.

This should be a nice mod and will get those IAT's down and make better power.

I hate to spend the cash on a Dyno pull but I would like a # to compare it to when swap the set up.

The MAP sensor is on the airbox, not the tube, so it's not as simple as turning the tube 180* and attaching a K&N....... As for cutting into the top of the box and using a scoop.... I think the large top portion of the airbox is clean air (after the filter) so that's not going to work well either....... Not trying to talk anybody out of modding, but I've already looked at some of these ideas and quickly talked myself out of them. Something else will come up.

Since changing to the spectra filter with the open end (cone ) last sat. I have not had a over boost limp mode happen. 600 miles or so. :cool:

Well not to correct you, but.....

MAP sensors are located on a intake manifold and on the LE5 ecotec is no different.

The only thing that should be on a intake tube or box would be IAT and MAF

Also to mention for those who tune, we can be real jerks and Speed Density the car and that eliminates the need for the MAF. Clears up much of the driveability quirks when working with fuel maps/trims.

Move the air intake to the other side of the box......

add a new "scoop" above the radiator in the high pressure area behind the grill....

True cold air intake, cheap and no cutting a whole in your hood....
for a little better flow add a K+N "stock" filter

And best of all never thrown a code with it...
