06 HHR Accident
06 HHR Accident
Well, with only 7K on the clock, someone pulled out and hit my wife. The person took out the right front fender/light/foglamp/frt bumper fascia.
The local body shop 'claims' to have ordered ALL GM stamped parts. I plan on going to pick it up on Saturday and turning in the loaner.
My question to everyone is simply this "How can I assure they used Genuine GM parts?". I know Ford has the Ford logo stamped into the parts.
Any other things to possibly look for???
Thanks,

I don't think any aftermarket crash parts exist for these yet (if ever). The GM sheetmetal parts are actually pretty inexpensive. When OEM parts are within reason pricewise, just not worth it to the aftermarket to tool up for these parts!
yes...ask for a copy of the parts receipt. YOU are entitled to see what your insurance company paid for.
if they wont show it to you, then you can bank on the fact that they didnt use GM parts throughout, but that could mean clips, seals, whatever. But like mentioned above, fenders, hoods, etc are pretty cheap OEM. I dont even know how available an aftermarket fender is for these cars..
Most insurance adjusters tell them NOT to use GM parts, unless of course they are cheaper.
the person to worry about isnt so much the body shop as it is the insurance company...they are the one paying the bill. It is probably written in your policy somewhere telling you that even though it's your car, if they are the ones paying for body repairs, it is to their disgression as to what parts to use.
Dont feel bad...even GM uses "used" parts in some warranty claims work.
If you are paying for the repairs, then YES, they MUST show you a receipt of the parts THEY purchased(not their cost) for proof.
first, and most importantly, find out what the warranty is on the body shop's repairs. This includes loose fasteners, paint finish(discoloration, primer suck-up, chipping, flexible parts adhesives, etc). I would be more concerned with how well the repair holds up/looks new more than where the body panels came from. For all you know, your beloved car had a replacement fender on it before you bought it from a parking lot accident prior to purchase.
I found out my 06 was in a fender bender AFTER I bought it...I wasnt happy, but what could I do. I went over it with a fine toothed comb after finding this out, and found a blemmish on the hood near the fender. I was told the body shop that did the repair was "a good shop, they do good work"...I checked EVERYTHING...it looked like it had never even been touched...except for the paint flaw on the hood.
I got over it in about 30 seconds...nothing I can do about it now...But seriously try to find out about repair warranty. Nothing worse than a metallic paint job that doesnt match the rest of the car...what I call a "involuntary two-tone"

A former employee contacted us to let us know of the practicew of this one shop. This was why he left. Sure enough, a simple magnet test found the bondo.
Best bet is to use a shop you know or known of someone that has used them. Reputation is the best bet.

I feel for you. I know exactly what you are going through. Last tuesday, an 82 year old man came into my lane and pushed me into the curb. About $4200.00 worth of damage, including right front fender (needs replacement) pass. door (repairable), front bumper fascia (Replace) all three rims and newly installed tires need to be replaced. plus left strut is bent & alignment is off. Will post pics. when time permits. Bottom line, older people need to be retested every few years.
so you are suing over the use of bondo...you wont get very far
Although excellent advise, not always good. We have a litigation against a body shop (one of our fleet vehicles) for using used and non oem parts and bondo. A receipt or invoice was not the issue, and they can give you a genuine GM invoice for the parts that they made themselves.....

If they are required to replace a fender, they are not allowed to use bondo. Kinda common sense if you ask me.
If you use fraud in your business practice, you can loose you business license easy. This one case will open plenty of other cases.
Considering who I work for. We will get a lot farther that you might imagine.

so you are suing over the use of bondo? bondo is a brand name...good luck suing them over something they have no control over. is is a lawsuit or is it dispute resolution? i think your lingo is twisted and makes you come off as misinformed.
so what prrof do you have that the ex-employee left for the reasons he said so? i think anyone in management can remember when an ex-employee took out their anger on them by sending people for a witch hunt.
who do you work for that you feel so confiedent? i work for our city council in a city of 1.7Million and they lost a similar litigation recently.
