18's VS 20's: Which rides better?

I tried looking for a thread that would discuss the "ride" of 18's v.s 20's or so forth.

I know I will be getting new wheels, but have not quite decided on the diameter wheel.

Does anyone know if there is any significant feel or difference between the ride of 18's vs 20's? (I have noticed that there are not many options on 19" wheels yet)

And, how would it compare to the stock 17"? (I have the polished ones now)

Although I would image the 20's would be a stiffer ride than the 18's. But hoping that someone has already experienced the two and could elaborate. :)

As for the style of the wheel, I am looking for something more "old school". Something like the old 5-spoke Cragar SS type wheels, or something to give it a "Hot Wheels" look. (remember the Hot Wheels cars from the late 60's - I still have a few from my childhood )

I did like the look that "inarmywpride" showed:

But, again, would like to see a more "old school" look. Is "True Spoke" still in business?????

Thanks,

As a rule of thumb, shorter the sidewall (lower profile) the stiffer it is, and thus impacts the ride quality.

I had aftermarket 18" American Racing wheels (5 spoke "Hot Wheels" style) on my old PT Cruiser and it drove like a tank... of course it was also lowered 2" too. Much harsher ride compared to the OEM 16" wheels.

Now that I own an HHR (w/17" polished rims) I'm kinda curious to see if my 18" AR's will/would fit??? However I doubt that the bolt/lug pattern & offset would match. (Chrysler PT to a Chevy HHR)

Such a shame, cause they're cool rims & in excellent condition too! (only used in summer months... no snow/salt) It would be awesome if they would fit on my HHR!!

If someone knows more info... let me know!

Thanks... JD

The other thing to consider is larger wheels have higher rolling mass thus one should upgrade the brakes. Otherwise the stopping distance, especially from highway speeds, will be greatly increased.

Got my wheels!

I went with Foose Nitrous 18x8.5, 5x110, with 34mm offset. Tire were 235/40R18 (Falken tires).

There were not any obstruction problems or clearance issues with this size or offset. So I am wondering if there is something I was not aware of, in terms of performance or handling by using this offset?

Anyway, here are some pics.

Obviously, this is my first "mod". I plan to replace the antenna to the famous SocalHHR stubby one, as well as to get an HHR inset for the third brake light. Not quite sure about lowering yet.....

For those of you in the SF area, here is where I got the package. Price was too low to post. Just put it at, he saved my $600 had I gone to BigO....

Those Foose wheels are the shiznit! Man I would love some rims like that. You gotta slam it! Get rid of that gap, your ride will look that much better.
