Remember some of these sleeper, light up rockets and space ships galore from Compco and Gem. Used to be lots of these in the J.C. Whitney catalogs, I used to spend hours over those catalogs just plotting and planning.

Yes I do.... I did the same..

& IIRC, JC Whitney was first to be a factory vendor for the "Continental Kits"

Then you'll remember this guy then, the lighted "Jester" ornament, triple chrome plated with easy two stud mounting....just $4.97....in 1975.

Yes indeed, how could one forget him ? A classic for sure..

Had a neighbor that had one on the nose of a '53 Ford custom.

Yeah it seems that you could, if you were very careful, heat up his hand over a flame and sort of make a fist with the exception of one finger. Or so I was told by a guy at a car show with a '32 Vicky that had its Jester modified to that particular configuration.

I wish I could have built the cars I designed out of the Whitney catalog back in the 60's-70's when I was supposed to be paying attention in school.......

Aha! Somebody else with a Whitney catalog tucked in their desk. I showed my wife some of the notebooks filled with hot rods drawn in class, she was amazed I had the time to get straight A's. Someday I'll get around to building a true old school hot rod, hopefully before I'm too ancient to have fun with it.

While its not my thing, I think the Ford looks better than the 55 chevy would.
Only reason I say that is the chevy is larger (wider) and I think it would be too big to look right on our smaller hood.

Ditto on the Whitney catalog in school, my dream book!!

I did alot of looking and research to find the "right" mascot for the HHR.

Sux Chevy never made one suitable, at least to my liking.....most of the old ornaments are just too big for the HHR hood. Even my Jet is a bit much for some tastes, my wife says "i'm junking it up now"....lol

Searched ebay for several weeks looking at hundreds of ornaments before deciding on the Ford jet.....There are a few others that would look nice but they were wayyy to much money, too rare.......Then looked for one not beat-up or pitted for reasonable price and ended up "stealing" this one for $22 bux delivered!!!
