Aftermarket grille question
Aftermarket grille question
Can a "bowtie" be affixed to an aftermarket grille? Most of the aftermarket's are plain, they still look nice but i'd like a "retro bowtie" on one. I'd go with a black grille with the chrome outline.
My painted stock grille looked nice until this spring when I went to fog in some of the stone/salt chips from a winter in Michigan. Everything looked good until I peeled off the masking tape and the charcoal gray paint came up with the tape wrecking the whole project which looked great for 8 months. I used self etching primer on the whole thing , then painted the whole grille black-taped the black off and sprayed the gray which didnt adhere to the black.
thanks rocket dawg
I cant figure out how to add a picture to this post.
On the left side bar is sez I have 4 images, if you can click on those, you'll see the grille.

Bust out the BBQ!
Judging by the images in your gallery, it appears as though you already have a Bowtie. But yes, I believe there have been some members who have affixed a Bowtie to an aftermarket grille. You may give the search button a try at the top and see what you can find.

Yes, it does have a bowtie on it, which should will come off easily because is was attached over the gray paint. I'm not sure how to attach this bowtie to a new aftermarket mesh grille
without having it fall off. Or keep this grill intact and eventually paint it the right way.
Yes the search thing has helped, but it is almost overwhelming with all the topics on 'grilles"

I do like the grille you have, I'd just strip off the paint and start over but mask off the two darker bars to spray the lighter bars and shell , then mask off the lighter color and spray the darker bars.
Don't spray the whole thing one color then paint over it with the other color .

Grill or grille?
most people on ebay spell it wrong also.
oopps
I ended up purchasing a "GRILLE" on ebay.. OEM chrome w/ the badge and bracket , new for $81 plus $10 shipping. I still like the 2 tone grillE I had and plan to strip and refinish it.
The reviews for some of these aftermarket girllE's were not good. Some had to modify, bend, cut or drill something in order to make it work. The price difference wasn't worth it IMO.
