aftermarket hood ?
John - making a custom hood for the HHR would probably cost a small fortune. Some owners have modified their hoods by adding louvers or (functional) air scoops.
And what's wrong with the manual shifter? I have the 5-speed in my HHR and it works well. Well...sometimes I miss a shift if I am acting irresponsibly - the gating between 2nd and 3rd requires a deliberate move to the right from neutral.

John! I got my short shifter from:http://www.promotiontuning.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc? James only had a few left when I bought mine back in December, doesn't show it on his site anymore...you could give him a call though to see. Like Mike said on the hood, you can have your hood modified or buy a new GM hood to modify, they are pretty inexpensive new...you're only limited by your imagination!
There is one place to get a hood. But remember fiberglass requires additional prep and fabrication to fit properly and look great. If you know a good bodyman with fiberglass experience this might work for you.

Haven't seen any pictures of a hood with louvers. Anyone bump into one I'd love to have a peak, think it would look great but would like to see it before hand. Not sure where anyone could get that done either?
Here is another place for short shifter
