Leon, does your HHR have the roof rails? Any tips on removing them? Did you have to drop the headliner? TIA.

I don't have roof rails, but I took the headliner out because I had to remove the stock antenna plus XM radio and CB radio antennas I had previously installed. While the headliner is out I'm putting a small switch on the light that sits up by the mirror. That thing drives me nuts sometimes.
Now is the hard part, waiting to take it in. The appointment isn't till next Monday so it's sitting in the garage stripped naked

It sounds like its going to be a kool looking HHR. But please remember a plain HHR is better than no HHR. Look forward to seeing the pics.
Stock, mild or wild they all look good.
See ya down the road

I just ordered the lowering springs to go along with the new wheels
They told me the wheels should go out middle of next week, ordered new tires, and talked to my pinstripe guy, have an appointment with him on the 28th to do that work. We're supposed to leave to go to Little Rock on the 30th for the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour. We were supposed to take the 54 Chevy but we're going to try to take the HHR. It will be tight but I think we'll make it.

Geez, will the paint even be dry by then??

Leon, I can't wait to meet you some day and see your gorgeous 2-toner (as I'm sure it will be). I'll be glad to get photos of a fellow Vintiques person!!

You sure are ambitious, doing all that pre-work yourself. And smart!!

You should get a photo of the car right now - a before and after photo album would be really cool.

I'll probably get a before picture tonight since we have to clean the car of all the junk that came out of the weatherstrip. I'm ashamed of the way it looks and don't want to take it to the body shop looking that way. It's like doing the housework before the maid arrives so she doesn't know how much of a slob you are

I build custom cars so prepping this one was a minor job. I had an idea to do some real work to it but Sharon threatened to take my welder away

I got a picture of it just after they color sanded, so the car is messy. At least if shows a little of what the car will look like.

I still don't have wheels, they are supposed to ship this week, then I have to prep and paint them, get tires, take the car to Hesperia for pinstriping, detail it, etc. so we can leave Friday morning on vacation!
One thing that saved me a little time is the new springs arrived just before I had to take it in for paint, so I was able to install them already. I should have enough settling time on them next week to do a check on the front end alignment before I have to leave.

If you are wanting to permanently remove the roof rail system, I believe that removing them will trigger a continual air bag light, thus disabling the entire system, including front air bags. If thats not what you meant then I will shut up and fall back into the shadows.
