Bench Seat HHR

How cool would this look? This is an S-10 Blazer seat done up old school. I think it would look great in my panel. I know there are no headrests but I like to live on the edge. I haven't measured anything yet but I just thought it would be cool. The console would have to be modified for sure. I am going to pick-your-part this weekend.

That's actually a stock bench seat for the S-10/Blazer that's been reupholstered. A bench seat would look cool in the HHR if properly executed. It'd be cool to have a flip-down armrest and cupholders in a more convenient spot.

If you wanted to get really cool, replace the shifter with a push-button setup from Mooneyes and remove the whole console.

Yeah, but what good is it? Seat belts don't allow you to slide on over to cuddle with the driver!

I once owned an S-10 pickup with the bench seat. It was barely adequate for 2 adults. We could fit a small cooler in between us but even a child seat was a tight squeeze.

You going to let that stop ya? had a '64 Chevelle Malibu SS and put a pillow between the bucket seats and old girl friend was happy. (seat belt laws were different back then)

I kinda thought about doing something similar, biggest headache would be relocating the E-brake to under dash or on outboard side of drivers seat. The original 47-53 panels did have lowback buckets though, so you could access the bed floor from the front. There are a few different companies out there with dash controls for automatics, but probably only for RWD transmissions. A stick shift HHR would be a little easier, use a different shift lever with some creative bends like a lokar or gennie. I am also considering eliminating the console & finding different buckets to allow access to rear area (maybe a fold/tumble from a 2-door car) since my 06 homebuilt panel will have the rear passenger doors welded closed.

The shift controls for RWD and FWD transmissions are all the same now--not directly coupled. Any shifter designed for an electronically-controlled AT should be adaptable.
