There's a thread here on the forum about this topic of changing the shifter/cover to the newer style.

I solved it by switching out to the 2009 shifter. Instead of that plactic slider, I've now got a leather boot and an extra little storage pocket.

I'd say it was a 2 on a 1-5 scale. Saddly, you have to buy the whole shifter unit.

Having a 2010 SS, I already have this standard and I love the little storage slot. It will hold my cigs or phone easily. A great option to have! Too bad they didn't offer this as a standard option on all HHR's.

When I went to nab my rear seat for my Panel, I was getting it from an '09.

Not alot was left on it, but the Shifter was with the little pocket, I Meant to nab it while I was removing everything for the rear seat, but once I finished getting all the seat parts out and packed up my tool bag, I FORGOT about the shifter until I was loaded up and paid for my parts.

I drove away got on the highway and it Hit me like a ton of LEAD, DOH I forgot to take the shifter out of the '09! DARN IT!

I did not turn around I was already 20 minutes on the highway towards home.
115 mile trip each way, at that point I said F-it and just kept going home.

I just keep one of the tiny remotes there now for the headrest monitors. The chrome ring keeps it there pretty good. But every now and then it slides behind the shifter and I will shift into gear and it's on the floor.

Wish I had remembered to Nab the '09 one for that little pocket.

Still ticks me off I totally forgot to get it. The salvage yard guy was really cool and didn't even charge me for some other parts I had grabbed like the 2 rear trays (for spares) so he might have just let me have the shifter too.

Oh well. A small piece of Velcro will have to do maybe.

I would just like to find the little tray itself. I have looked and it seems like an easy job to just trim it out to proper size and shape. Should have been done on the 06-09's considering the window controls took space from another cubby there.
