The 3M gray with red tape is what you will find at any good auto parts store...And yes it is the same as the stuff that came on the rings.

3M also make an adhesive promoter that comes in packs just like the alcohol preps you usually get. I works much better. Auto body shops use it on anything they are installing with tape.

If the auto parts store doesn't have it any auto paint supplier will. You coould most likely get it a pack or two from any local body shop for next to nothing if you talk nice to someone.

Hope this helps

Thanks! Like I said, I'll have to check on either Saturday or Monday... In the mean time, I hope I don't lose any... It just kinda sucks that they didn't last very long.... Makes me wonder how well they're made or if I will lose them eventually....

Eric, just like you, I had one tail ring loose adhesion. But I am fortunate enough to have a roll of double sided awning tape on hand. Since I applied the new tape, it hasn't budged.

Definitely don't worry about that. I had them on on my car for about a year and a half and they were fine. I needed a hairdryer in the middle of summer to even begin to peel them off.

Ok, so I bought some 3M tape today, and I have a quick question. Do I need to remove the old tape before applying the new? What is the best way to get that stuff off?

In my opinion, you definitely need to take it off. If not, you'll have a large gap between the ring and the taillight housing from the tape buildup. There's already more than enough of a gap as it is. Now, how you get the stuff off, I'm not sure-- never tried it. I do know there's also some type of remover made for that tape (by 3M also). But there might be an easier, more readily available way.

Well, I tried getting as much off as I could...but there was still some. Looks alright, but you can see up close there is a tiny bit more of a gap than the other two...but no one else will notice. Hopefully this wont' affect anything in the long run. Looks like water might catch and hold in there...

I'm just hoping these things stay on now and last a looong time. It took me a long time to justify spending that much money on these. (I know they aren't that much, but for me it's a lot...I don't want to buy another set!)

Thanks for all of your help guys!

Well, the two I fixed you couldn't get off if you tried. One more is starting to come loose... My dad and I were talking, and we wonder how old these were, since the new tape is working so good. Might be the tape is so old it's not sticking...
