I can't find a single custom hood for a HHR. I refuse to buy non-functional. It looks as though we, as HHR owners, are screwed from placing any nice functional hoods on our cars.

Get creative with the one you have.

I'm a "right-brain" thinker. A computer guy who only wishes he could design. I guess it's a good thing I have friends who love to think outside the box and create. Just need to give'em a case of beer and the materials and let'em go at it.

So whats with the 'Non functional hood' thing?
Unless you can mod a airbox setup to the hood, you don't gain anything , but a big hole in the hood[thats collects rain and dirt]. On the SS the air inlet comes from the fender well, and even if you were to get the air from the hood scoop, it would'nt be any gain you could tell. Only thing a functional hood scoop would do, is blow some of the hot air down the back of the firewall, collect rain and dirt in engine bay. I put one on for looks, and it's not functional. Just lets people know, she ain't stock. "Moon" |
I have seen a "cowl induction" hood somewhere around here. Start with that and make it functional on your own....be creative. You can do anything you want if you really, really want to.

I think a functioning cowl induction is the best route to aim for.

"Moon" If i put the air cover on, And use stock inlet i see max boost of 12 (NO TUNE) Remove air cover , Close off stock inlet and boost at 15-17 (no tune) And the spinning tires in 1st 2nd and 3rd say your wrong. With out a tune and super agresive driving i go into limp mode within about 5 min. (no turbo) Code = over boost, Thats 5 mins. of hell on wheels. Seems like a little more is happenning than geting my engine bay wet and dirty, And this is not my opinion , This is a fact. Untill i get the trifecta steath, i'm running a spectra filter with the air box lid 3" lifted in the front, Stops limp mode, and i'm still seeing boost of 15, And this is in genral, Not on special weather days. Just saying your wrong , Thats all. But hey a large plastic sticker is cool too. |
