YIKES!!!
There's two phillips head screws that holds the compartment in. Remove them, then it just lifts out. If I remember correctly, it's a one-piece design. The lid didn't come off the compartment

the storage bin is held in by 3 screws, and removal of the dash top is not necessary to take out the bin. but replacing just the lid might be a little tricky, probably have to replace the entire bin. it's been a while since i removed mine, so i don't remember exactly how the lid was held onto the bin.

Thanks very much for this information!

I'm going to take a closer look, then talk to the parts dept. at my Chevy dealer.

You guys are really, really helpful. I'm grateful.

Hey Lunchbox, I love your new avatar. That is too cool.
BTW, aren't you across the river from D'estrehan? That's testing my memory brother, but it seems like you'd be pretty close to that area. Wish I was there on Christmas Eve to see the bonfires. God Bless, Marc

aye marc, thanks man, and yeah i'm over that way. only been here for a couple years, but spend the holidays back in florida. unfortunately i've never seen the bonfires, maybe this year though.
Alright, to be on topic though, i started smoothing my center console while i was waiting for my fiberglass doors to cure. What a pain... and i think i'm gonna need some more sandpaper . just cant stop modding

I pulled out the grinder with some 80 grit. It makes short work of the texture, but it takes a steady hand to keep from getting a "whoopsee, damn".
