Do the door map pockets snap off?

Just wondering, do the map pockets on the doors snap off? I know that the whole door panel is one piece, but it looks like as if the map pocket might be removable. Just curious, as I'm thinking about dressing up the door panels, thought maybe I could cover the map pockets in carpet or fabric. About the only thing I don't like about the HHR are the hard plastic doors. Has anybody tried to upholster or upgrade their door panels?

i have a feeling they are plastic welded on the back. when you take the panel there may be points you can cut off with a razor and it comes off. then just use some small wood screws to get it back on.

Yes, they are plastic welded.

Is the trim piece plastic welded too? I didn't look when I had the panel off.

If you mean the horizontal silver strip, yes.
I think members have removed them though, by cutting off the plastic weld points from the back and re-securing them somehow.

Probably with glue or something. I was just thinking of wrapping them in black suede or something...

What I've always had good luck with using to attach plastics to each other is Silicone RTV. As long as your not dealing with something under load and it just needs to be held together clean the surfaces with alcohol and then apply the silicone and apply pressure for a few hours until it sets. Sometimes all you need to do is tape them together.
