Factory spoiler ?? HELP

If you have a factory spoiler (not the SS version) then I need your help. I need the measurments from each side and from the top down to the spoiler. I am thinking its about 1 inch. Now look inside the rear lid and tell me how many bolts hold the spoiler on. I am suspicious that it is held on by only two screws which are in the center of the factory cut out. I bought a spoiler of the web, and I wish to mount it like the factory one. They may eve use 3M tape to help secure it. Thank you for your help Ed

I don't have a spoiler but seems I was reading a thread on here about someone removing theirs. They took off the nuts and it wouldn't come off.... double sided tape was mentioned as a possible reason. So I'm thinking the factory unit has one bolt per side and 3M tape.

I have the factory spoiler and there are two metal disks covering the holes on the underside of the tailgate. I'm assuming there are indeed nuts that hold it on, but it also looks like there is some kind of sticky tape around the base of the spoiler where it meets the tailgate. For what it's worth, I'd probably put two sided tape down either way, if just to act as a paint protector...oh yeah, added strength too!

If I was adding the spoiler, I'd just use the center of the holes in the tailgate as my starting point. Maybe ChvyMgr can weigh in on a better process.

This member installed with tape only and it hasn't fell off yet (and that was several years ago).

Thanks for your quick reply. I am going to do as you suggest, drill center of cutout and install screw in each cut out and use 3m tape on the under side of the spoiler. Another member drilled 2 additional holes (where no cut out exists) and added a total of two screws to each side. I prefer to have it look factory, even though the spoiler is not. Just too pricey to buy a factory spoiler. Thanks again

It's probably overkill, but I'd rather do that once and not worry about it. Another thought...once you drill the holes, might want to think about protecting/coating them some how. Maybe a laquer of some sort? If you are drilling from the inside, you'll need a super sharp bit and high speed drill. Dull bit may enhance the chance of cracking the paint(someone please correct me if I am wrong!!!). Drilling down from the outside might combat that. You could make a "jig" out of cardboard from the inside to line up the holes and then use that on the outside. Sorry if it sounds like I'm rambling...just a stream of thoughts.

What part of FM do you live in eko? I lived off of Gladiolous (still can't spell it right) for about a year. Loved going out to SB/Captiva, cept for that $6 toll

SmoothHHR, we are snow birds who live just before the big bridge that goes to the beach. Down Main st., across from Parrot Key. We also live in Ohio, on Put-in-Bay for the summer. Thanks again for the reply.

Been to Parrot Key a couple of times...great taco salad! I used to work for California Closets and did work all over the place down there. My folks live about 5 miles away from you. You are right in charter boat territory Next time I'm down that way, I'll send you a message. Hope the spoiler suggestions help. Please post some pics of the install if you do it yourself.
