Front Bowtie
Does anyone have the part # and cost for the FRONT, gold bowtie emblem that fits on the grille? I found one online but $66. doesn't fit my budget nor pass thru my common sense filter....

GM part number 20836156 check our RockAuto and don’t forget the discount code. https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/ge...6,emblem,11428 |
FYI
If it's just a matter of the bowtie looking faded and ugly, you could just paint it. Lots of members here have done that (and saved some money) |
Yes, there are lots of options, vinyl tapes, carbon fibre look alike, use your imagination. But I personally like the OEM gold bowtie. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...17fd95fe4.jpeg |
Conflicted
I prefer the OEM bowtie, as well. Question: What discount code?. Rock Auto is cheaper than eBay for the emblem, but $45 is still a bunch. Sorry to sound whiny, but I am looking at a big sum (from $400. to $700., depending on diagnosis, parts only) to do suspension fixes, and there isn't a lot left for cosmetics.

Could contact member hellshotrod for used.

It’s in the supporting vendors area, here https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/supp...-2018-a-60583/ good for 5 percent off. |
Thank you. Code received.

If you look on E Bay "Chevy HHR Front Bow Tie" there are some for as low as $17-19 plus small shipping.
They do not have the OE part number but show available fit for the HHR and shows GM Brand. They also have the correct measurements. Check it out.... Silverfox

I bought a rear one from him, for a reasonable price. When I enquired of a rear one, he steered me to one he has for sale for $66.
|
The listing I mention is an active listing. You do not have to inquire to buy it.
It is a Buy it now for $18.95 or make an offer.....$2.75 shipping. That seems like a good deal to me ... or ... Make a reasonable offer. Silverfox |
That part number is for the rear beauty bar emblem, to small for the front grille emblem https://www.gmpartsgiant.com/parts/g...-15791402.html |
That's weird ....
I just measured the ones on my 2011 and they measure the same. The only thing I cannot tell for sure is if they have the same bend/curve. Approx. 7 5/8" Long 3" wide I searched for Front Bow Tie on the e bay search Box. Silverfox |

I'm more of a blue bow tie fan, but for my HHR I did a silver vinyl overlay.

Front/Rear
Thanks, SF. I am going to measure both of mine, too (2007).
|
Just measured them and mine are the same dimensions, too!

Beats me why the price for the front is so much higher. The rear attaches with self stick tape while I think the front has studs and nuts and must be the reason. Silverfox |
I am well over 70, spent over fifty years as an Engineer, and from my perspective there is no good reason why they should not be the same, p/n and all. If they are not, it is simply irresponsible design.

The front bowtie is larger, adheres to the grille with doublesided tape. Silverfox it is plausible that your front bowtie was replaced by the PO before you bought it. note some ads on EBay show they also fit the Silverado front grille, but they don’t. I fell for that myself a few years ago, thankfully my friend needed a rear bow tie for his Chevy Uplander. OldSwede, it’s not an engineering deal, just what’s in the parts bin that fits. the front bow tie delaminates and takes all the stone chips and has always been over priced. |
Steve,
I think it could be possible my front had been changed because I found it necessary to changed the rear one when I bought it. The rear part I bought fit the bar perimeter frame perfectly so I know the rear size is correct and it was an Original GM packaged part. For that reason I am still in doubt about the size difference. I rechecked mine again and they measure the same. However ... They made the two parts with different Part Numbers so there must be a difference. I still think it is in the amount of curve of the grill. If you had the 2 parts side by side I think you could see that curve much easier. And yes your right ... the front goes on with tape as well. Silverfox |
OK. You folks got me curious and I went out and measured. The "gold" part of the front and rear emblems seem to be the same size. The difference I see is the chrome bezels are different. The front one is wider because it has a little more taper or angle to it.
These pictures don't show it that well but I did include the measurements. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...61e3302f3a.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...6c5531e8db.jpg |
George,
Now you got me confused..... I rechecked to make sure where I was measuring from and then Taped a straight line vertically at each end. That is the overall measurement of the bow tie only including the chrome ring. Does the SS show the same part numbers as the rest if the fleet? Both front and rear are exactly the same. 7 1/8" O.A. Silverfox |
Hmm. Not sure. I always thought the regular HHR's and the SS's had the same emblems. I'll do a little parts #'s check and get back with an answer.
EDIT::: According to a parts look up (GM parts catalogue), they show the same parts #'s for all models. Front----20836156 Rear-----19209664 |
Thank you, FMG. Your SS has the most pristine original bowtie, front and rear. So, it’s the extra chrome base that is the difference from the front emblem and the rear emblem, hence different part numbers all HHR’s have the same front and rear emblem part numbers. So, someone could buy the cheaper rear emblem, remove the gold plastic bowtie and adhere it to their front chrome base, just a hot rodders suggestion |

Thank you for implying that they they are infact different. |
Heck, my man, I am not "implying" anything. I have owned this rig for exactly eight days. The emblems appear to be the same SIZE on mine, but with different fastening methods. My back one pried off easily, and wa easy and relatively cheap to replace. When I tried to pry off the front one, the plastic bowtie popped off and fell to the ground. So, I sanded it, primed it and painted it body color. It will do for now; I have a bunch of front end maintenance items (164k) to do and have no.more time for cosmetics.

So, pulled out my original HHR grille and rear beauty bar, and measured, just to clarify the differences https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...5a7440a20.jpegFront grille emblem chrome at 43 mm https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...5ad724045.jpegThe grille and beauty bar next to each other https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...08612a085.jpegRear beauty bar chrome at 38 mm https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...d75637b51.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...416a259ae.jpegThe rear plastic at 35 mm https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...d52fdb70e.jpegThe front plastic at 35 mm |
The definitive reply. Thanks!

I just thought I’d verify the plausiblity if swapping rear to front |
OK I'm Curious now - How can I remove front and rear without damage so they can be repainted Black then re-installed? Are they just double sided taped on? if so should I use Heat gun to loosen and pull as needed?
|
Heat gun and fishing line seems to work best.
|
Pretty easy to paint them in place too...

I used carbon fiber vinyl from the auto parts store - didn't have to remove bow-ties, either. I even covered-up the dealership name and logo on my license plate frame to match. |
I would recommend removing at them if possible. I painted mine in place. It took a few years but the foil backing on the back bow tie eventually disintegrated and nearly fell off.
