Getting rid of chrome

Picking up my 07 HHR on Saturday and happen to HATE chrome

Ride is a LT2 Panel and has the chrome door handles/rear hatch trim and grill

Any luck painting the grill? Removing the door handles and swapping them? Rear trim piece. Wish it was all body color or black...

Suggestions

You're probably better off getting a set of the satin chrome (silver plastic) parts rather than trying to paint the chrome ones, and selling/swapping them. Not sure if you can yet get the body color handles and rear bar, which are available on the '08s.

08 doesn't swap to 07? I have a friend with a body shop and can get them painted if necessary.

Oh yea, and those mirror covers...do they just pop off? Hopefully they are black underneath. I saw a set of GM black ones on eBay also.

Thanks!

Not sure about the handles, but they look exactly the same shape. The chrome ones are listed for '06-'08, so they have to be interchangeable.

Did you paint the satin?

I see black mirror caps on eBay but I'm sure someone on here would like the chrome ones (I'd prefer the black not satin...sorry)

As far as the rear trim piece and handles did you paint the satin or chrome? And about the grill, is it ABS, how well does the paint adhear? What do you use to paint?

Thanks to all

I'd recommend you take it to your buddy with the body shop, he will have the equiptment to do this job properly. If you're not going to change the grille or rear garnish (ie shave emblems), you can paint over the plating. There are no guaranties, when I tried heat on mine, some areas of plating bubbled. And stay away from any paint strippers.
