Grill Bowties revisited

I know there were a couple discussions a while back on painting the bow-ties, and I know the gold badge will separate from the chrome.

My question is, do you have to take the chrome badge off to get the gold badge off? Or can you just take the gold off???

Hey EZ...I haven't done this myself, but from what I remember, it's easier to remove the old gold badge if you take the whole thing off the car. All it takes is using some dental floss or fishing line behind the badge. Wrap it around a couple fingers and use it in a sawing motion and it should come right off.

Then you should be able to remove the gold one after that. Just be gentle when separating those, so you don't snap the gold part in half like CH did.

remove the chrome/gold badge off, tape off the chrome then spray paint the gold badge. The gold badge is attached by some kind of glue, while the chrome/gold badge is attached by soft two sided tape. Thats what I did to the rear badge of my car and it came out clean.

It can be done but the are pretty pliable and break if you're not careful, the outer bowtie I mean.

I agree with pony, tape and paint. I think mine looks pretty good!

OK, this may sound like a stupid question, but are the front and rear bowties the same part number/size?

Oldblue Feb 24, 2021 11:24 AM

No they are not.

Thank you. Do you happen to know the part numbers or sizes that are for the front and back?

He sent it to me after Bob was totaled

OEM bow ties are expensive on EBay and sometimes misrepresented. Double check the part numbers before you order.
