I'm looking at removing the factory stripe. I want to have some hand painted flames on my HHR. I need some help if anyone has done this.

Sorry I don’t know, if it is vinyl stripe would a heat gun work? Its your car but I would not take the stripe off my Premier.

I love the stripe personally, I took one off my last car, just use a hair dryer or heat gun get a corner started and go slow with heat and peel it off in small sections. Use a little bug and tar remover or Goo Gone to get the glue residue off.

Stripe removal

Body shops use a tool that has a rubber wheel on it. Snap-on tools calls it a "Crud Thug". Peels vinyl decals off in seconds with no paint damage. I borrowed a friends to remove the graphics from my work trailer. It peeled them off beautifully. They were on there for almost ten years!! With one of these it would probably take a half hour to get thoses stripes off.

Stripe removal

Am in the sign business and we simply use a hair dryer or heat gun (careful, just for a second or two) to warm it up on the end. Then keep some heat on it and remove with a plastic squeege to get it started.

I was thinking tonight how we all want to modify our cars. (and I'm making fun of myself as well on this). If they give us a stripe, we want to take it off. If they give us green LEDs we want blue or red. I've got smoked chrome 17s, and I want 18s or 20s. In the '70s we raised the rear end, today we lower.

Might be a fun thread to start. I'd like to replace my _____ with ______.

You know what? That's the beauty of the HHR. Try doing that with a Ford Taurus.

Anyway, you probably paid about $150 for those stripes as a part of your $950 Premium package.

My wife wouldn't let me take off the stripe even if I wanted to (I personally like it). She loves it.

Want she does want is the rear spoiler with more of a curve. But I like it the way it is so :P

Then she punched me

I remember when I bought a new S-10, the dealer had pinstriped it between my test drive and delivery, and wanted to charge me another $100. I'm like, that's coming off AS SOON as I get home so I'm not paying it, you guys can eat the $100 and they did.........though it was probably only about $5 on their end!

This doesn't answer you're question, but if you wait for a hot day, park in the sun and you can skip the hair dryer!
