I had thought about black vinyl underneath too but after looking at it for awhile didn't mind the extra slit of light on both sides.

How was the install? Did you have to do any carving or bending to get them to fit correctly? That is one of the mods that I have considered for mine. It looks good, but I don't know if I would like the extra bit of light bleeding through like in the second photo.

They are shaped to fit and go on with just double sided 3M tape.
