Nice!!!!

knightRS32 07-10-2008 10:31 PM

good question...lol

08HHRPA 07-11-2008 04:53 AM

Does anybody want to get a set and find out? I wanted to go with baby moons and trim rings, but I don't see any way to keep baby moons on these FWD stock steel wheels. They don't have those "lugs" on the center section like the old cars did.

Smoothies are the only thing I could find that looks close. Even though those full racing discs look sweet, I'm not prepared to put screws into my rims, only to find out they don't work well, anyway.

Danko 07-11-2008 06:19 AM

Have you asked the seller why they call them HHR baby moons? There is a piece missing to this puzzle the seller might have.

knightRS32 07-11-2008 05:38 PM

I just ordered my set....$76 with shipping. I'll have pics up by mid to late next week depending on when they ship out.

Songman 07-11-2008 06:22 PM

Looking forward to seeing them. Although I will be very surprised if they work.

If you do a search for the part number (G124580), it comes up as the same part for a lot of different cars, including the Saturn Sky (I would love to see that!), Pontiac G5, GMC Yukon, GMC Acadia, GMC Envoy, Chevy Malibu, etc... Even the Corvette from 1953-2008!!

08HHRPA 07-11-2008 07:24 PM

Hopefully they'll take them back if it's a bad claim on their part that they will fit the models with FWD.

Songman, I thought the same thing when I looked through the list of models and saw the same stock number for every vehicle.

I would love to be wrong and see some good pics of them on the HHR. If they fit, they'll look good.

IMO, that's the retro look that fits these cars.

Danko 07-11-2008 07:33 PM

I, too, want the retro look. Now picture the flag mirrors removed and replaced with little round ones ala the 40s and 50s. Huh? I am onto something there, huh? How about freestanding chrome bumpers? nah...... that is asking too much....... but my mirror idea is a good one! My 225/55 Blizzaks were just delivered Hopefully they will fit no problem. I will not mount them until almost snow time. Thnx again to the forum member that caught Tire Rack with the big sale. $60 each is a steal!

mitzkity 07-11-2008 07:46 PM

I think it looks great!! (a little biased, tho)

Danko 07-11-2008 08:07 PM

I am biased, too. I think the AA5 option helps the look bigtime! Our HHR was bought because my wife's bad knees and recent and future foot surgerys have made her "shiftless" so that driving one of our Ram SRT-10s is no longer possible for her. But I am also getting the bug for an '09 AA5 SS in Silver Ice with the perf option. Too bad the resale on my trucks has dropped so far. Getting rid of one would make sense but I will just have to keep driving one and I do enjoy that. Maybe in another year or two I will also have an HHR.........

StormChaser 07-13-2008 06:40 PM

OK, I'm in

Just what I'm looking for...baby moons for the stock steelies.

Also noticed that http://wheelvintiques.com lists a " 5019 Chevy Cap for HHR"

http://wheelvintiques.com/shopsite_s...media/5019.jpg

And it says "its: HHR Wheels" instead of fits Smoothie or Ralley like the other caps. Wonder if this is a baby/center cap or if it's a full wheel cap?

No need to put screws into your rims...spring clips all the way around the discs hold them on perfectly.

Sadly, this is a no-go. Even though it says "Fits: HHR Wheels"...that means fits HHR smoothies or HHR Ralleys.

Guess we need to hope that the other ones fit...

hvrod 07-14-2008 01:20 PM

Baby moons would not completed cover the wheel..

Full moons will

StormChaser 07-14-2008 01:22 PM

Ok, so thsoe are full moons. Got it. I REALLY want to find baby moons that fit the stock rims.

There is no baby's that fit the stock steel rims, just full disks.

StormChaser 07-14-2008 02:20 PM

Thats what this thread is about...knightRS32 may have actually found a set of BABY moons that fit the stock rims! :D :D

I hope everything works out all right for you. Not trying to scare you, but this company, which is part of a bigger "parent", had been a problem for me. I had to "sic" a lawyer on them!! Just a heads up......if you don't get the parts in a reasonable time, start the dialog.

hvrod 07-14-2008 03:01 PM

the only thing you might need to watch out for..
is The spoke type of steelies won't allow you install the Moons..

Where as the the circluar steelies (ones with small punch out holes on the outer edges) do allow to put moons on..

Where did you get them? Hubcap Mike's has those with spring clips, but it specifically says they will not fit HHR or Honda Element. I really like those better, but I'm OK with smoothies for now.

I took another look at my stock steel wheels. Unless those baby moons have magic fingers we can't see, there's no way I can see for them to stay on our wheels. The center of our steel wheels are smooth. No lugs, no ridges, no protrusions anywhere for a set of baby moons to snap over.

I could see somebody making some with a metal ring that would hold on to the lugs, and then the cap snaps over the ring.

Maybe once we see more HHRs on the road, somebody might start making something like that.

Well, maybe not perfectly! I lost one this spring due to a pothole and you can't buy just one to replace it!

oneton 07-14-2008 10:57 PM

Yes you can at Hub cap mikes buy just one

http://www.hubcapmike.com/rdc01-16.html

It says that they don't fit HHRs I orded just one the see why and i just bent out the spring tabs a little and have been on for over a year. Had screw on 1st but were a PIA to ck air press.ect. see pic in my gallery of all 3 of my HHRs

knightRS32 07-14-2008 11:13 PM

I ordered a set of the baby moons on Friday evening, so they should have shipped out Monday morning. I hope to have pics up by mid to late this week. Due to the controversy of these caps, I'd encourage everyone to lay back to see if what I got is a good deal or if I got ripped off.

Mosher 07-15-2008 05:12 AM

I'm excited! If knightRS32 turns out to have a sweet set of baby moons and they fit it's going to cause quite the stir.

While in college I worked at a tire shop. There were 80s model cars taht had those heavy duty spoke hub caps where you had a cup that was installed before the lug nuts so you could mount the hub cap on. I wonder if they could design a baby moon to mount like those old maybe buick spoke hub cabs? You one the ones were you put the center hub on before the lug nuts so that when you put the hub cap on you have some thing to screw the baby moon too.

or maybe i can go to a junk yard grab those magical mounts and modifiy a baby moon. Only catch is I can't think of a way to hid the center screw

Here's a link to a similar to my vision.

Unless you plan on drilling a hole in the center of your baby moons, those GM brackets won't work.Seems like only a full moon disc would work or a replacement wheel would be necessary.

prod 07-15-2008 09:12 AM

We had an 82 Impala (ex-taxi) that had ones that just popped on. Still see them on some cop cars. Will they fit?

I got the aero discs from Hubcap Haven (#2599 Stainless Steel Racing Discs, 16 inch, $89.95 for a set of 4 in Dec. of 2007)

Baby moons.

Knight I hope it works out for you. I am very interested. I sent parts train an email asking how those baby moon caps are installed. Here is the message they returned.

Dear Aaron Gleason,

Greetings!

Unfortunately we are not able to provide you with the information that you are seeking.

You may ask assistance to your local mechanic for installation purposes.

Thank you and have a nice day.

Sincerely,

partstrain.com

Thats not terribly Helpfull, But if you figure them out please let us know!

knightRS32 07-16-2008 09:52 PM

Well I got the caps tonight and they look pretty rad! However, it's a bowl with about a 3/8" lip on it, so they definitely do not pop on to the stock steelies and they didn't provide any spring clips with them either. So now I need to go down the street to the place that specializes in rims and have them see if they can rig something up for me.

I held one up on the wheel and it's really awesome looking! I may be doing a red stripe around the outer lip of the rim once I get them mounted. I'll keep you all updated.

red stripe stealer. lol

i wanna see pic of it held up to wheel..

hook me up with that pic , eh ?

knightRS32 07-17-2008 08:25 PM

I'll try to snap one at work tomorrow!

I'm thinking the most viable option for making these work is a piece that would bolt onto the lug nuts like the stock caps and then pop the baby moon onto it. Hopefully something like that exists for a cheap price.
