It's a decent idea although poor security. It would have to a lock box with a numeric code to open it, similar to realtor lock boxes and such.

My dad used to, and probably still does, secured a key with safety wire to the underside of his truck. I remember a few times he had to use the hidden key. He could never remember where it was and always spent time crawling under the truck looking for it knowing it was somewhere under there.
He used to also toss the keys under a rock nearby the truck when we rode dirt bikes out in the desert. Many times we spend time looking for that rock because he couldn't remember which rock it was under, they all look the same after a while!

the onstar can take like 20 mins but deff safer than that thing
