The coolest cheapest easiest fastest mod you can make with the biggest impact is to black out your muffler and install a chrome exhaust tip. I can't tell you how great the back of the car looks compared to stock when you do this. The tip was $10 at AutoZone, and the black high-heat spray paint was about $3.

 

To the OP, if you don't care for the gold-tone on the rim centers & steer wheel bow-ties, that can be easily polished off to a bright aluminum shine..

I did this today. Never really gave it much thought honestly, but what the heck. Still nicer to be able to move completely away. Even my neighbor saw me doing it. Came over and asked. Then asked if I could do his wife's Dodge Journey that has the same crazy "can't pull away" design. It's got to there for drive thru brush car washes. Can't see any other reason.

Yes, it worked on my clear-coated 2LT Hi-Polished oem mags...

 

if you pull the DRL fuse, that just allows you to leave the auto lights "on" and it wont run the lowbeam headlights? what happens when it gets dark, do they turn on still? any negative effects by pulling this fuse?

 

Pulling the DRL fuse just disables the daytime running lights and the Auto lights continue to work normally--they will come on/turn off according to daylight levels. I did this two months ago with no negative effect.

 

My favorite cheapo mod so far has been using the blue LED from a $1 "Finger Light" I bought at Big Lots...I took out the LED from the Finger Light and swapped it for the white LED that illuminates the center console. Removing the white LED was easy but it took some fishing around to get the blue one in. I found it easiest to turn on the light so I could see the blue light through the hole in the headliner fixture.

 

You can always go on e-bay or do some on-line searching for any number of Chevrolet scripts to mount on your dash (on the vast wasteland over the glovebox) or the exterior of your car. I think I bought my '57 Chevy script for $10-$15 (don't remember exactly), then drilled four small holes in my dash to mount it (it had four pegs...if you'd rather not drill, you can always snip off the pegs and glue it instead). Took 10 minutes, tops, and it looks like it came from the factory that way. There's many different scripts and fonts available from many different eras, so you're bound to find something you'll like.

 

I performed a similar mod. I found a $13 "Hotrod" chrome script on the WWW and put it on the tailgate where the "HHR" used to be. Now I have the only Chevy Hotrod in town.
