Installed Lower Billet Grill

With all the talk of lower grills I got one off of Ebay for $40.00 (Included Shipping) and was pleased with the grill. I changed the bolts that came with the hardware to stainless steel and used nylon/stainless lock nuts through the brackets so there is no way it can vibrate loose on these wonderful NY Roads. Also made vent cap "grills". If the vent "grills" hold up I will then make & be able to swap them out for other themes. I will be making ones with the chrome strips and large chrome skulls to go with my skull/hearse theme.

Thanks guys!

The Secret? 5 inch Round Electrical Cover Plates. No cutting involved, and they have a beveled edge that hugs the outer rim curve of the vent caps. Will take a closer pic in the morning. They come white-I had flat black (to give the illusion from further away that there was depth) auto paint from a buddy's garage cleanout. Sand the covers enough to get the gloss off, prime & paint 3 coats on both sides. Then measured for the placement of 1/8 inch chrome, slide up into vent cap opening (no cutting required-top of cover plate slides under the bumper) drill small pilot holes after fitting level, screw in using SS Screws. If they hold up I will play around with other things-skulls, flames, (Yellow Bat Wing Fog Light Covers? Just kidding!) etc.

$1.50 per plate
Had paint already
$13.99 for 20ft roll of 1/8 inch chrome with plenty left over for other things.

They don't look bad close up, from further away they look pretty good. Not bad for a poor family man's mod. It was a slight PITA to get the covers level because of the billet bumper grill having a slight curvy angle to it matching the bumper line.

Normally I don't like the lower billet grills with the stock upper grill, (and don't usually like upper billet grills) but with those vent grills done to "match" it looks great.

Love the spray painted license plate mod too.

What I like about your "Billet lower vents caps" is that it compliments the lower grill and gives the front of the HHR the illusion of being lower and wider. Goto love new ideas.
