Question License plate frames?

I was wondering if anyone has tried & succeeded with some kind of frame on the front or their HHR... the bracket on the front has clips @ the top & I tried the frame got for the back, but it won't work because of the tabs.

I just removed the black plastic plate holder on the front, drilled new holes and mounted a new plate frame in its place.

Gotta have front plates in VA...

I used a sharp knife and cut the "tabs" off the top and then used short stainless sheet metal screws at the top to attach the frame on the factory bracket.

I don't have pics, but i also removed the holder and mounted just the frame. I used a simple chrome frame and bent it in the middle to match the bumper. After having to replace the bumper I made the body shop leave off the holder so I didn't have to worry about the holes when I mounted the plate on the plastic lower bumper insert. It was very easy.

Thumbs up Cruiser Accessories...

I have the one found at the following link on the front of mine, with the just bottom screws used...$6.99 at PepBoys...works great!
On the rear, I have the chrome 'HHR' frame from Chevymall...

Two bottom bolts will work for a front plate. See below:

As for my rear, I had two "Flying Eagle" license frames from my old Firebird, but the chrome was a mess, so I repainted one:

I "floated" mine off the front bumper as well:

A much cleaner look methinks. I removed the stock "PO$", redrilled the bumper, installed lic plate fasteners (from Pep Boys), into the new bumper holes, then cut some rubber vacuum caps at an angle (to mach the bumper), to space the plate off. Don't forget the smoothie caps for a finishing touch!

Hope it helps,

Hi John,

Im on the very same page as you bro. I want to fill the factory rivet holes and mount mine to the new lower grille. Yours is mesh so I would imagine some fender washers and stainless machine screws would work great.
