My crude attempt at a customized frontend

This is sorta the look I would want to go for if and when I get an HHR. Excuse my crude photoshop skills :-)

I guess I'm not the only one that thinks chrome steel bumpers are cool! I've already prefit mine to the rear, same bumper should work in front also after rear mods are complete. I'm also replacing the headlights with something more round, and completely redoing the grille. Keep all your ideas on paper in sketches or on your computer for later reference when you get your HHR.

I see a few major hurdles I need to get over to pull off that look. The first is the factory bumper cover. I would need a completely custom cover in order to pull off the look or a highly modded one anyway. Need a basically a flat bumper cover more like the SSR's. Then finding or custom making the chrome bumper is the next big hurdle. The chrome bumpers position is a problem also as it offers no protection to the front clip at all mounted so low but that I would sacrifice. If someone could simply design a full chrome bumper overlay that fits over the existing bumper similar to what they offer aftermarket for the PT's than I'd be happy. Would just have to cut those factory bumperette things off the cover before laying it on. The ones I've seen for the HHR are just little stick on chrome molding that sticks on the face which looks crappy. The round headlight idea would only work with major mods to the cover and fenders as well. Oh well I can dream I guess :-)

Slightly revised. Notice I raised the bumper position for better protection and added marker lights.

My plans with mine are to completely eliminate the factory bumper cover, rebuild the front of the fenders with steel to come all the way down to the airdam in order to accomodate new round headlights, chrome steel bumper over the factory steel crash beam, and a new grille above & below the new bumper. The originals had five grille bars, I'll put three above & two below the bumper. Alot of work, but will be the only one like it.
