my smoke headlight

I bought smoke vinyl from a local dealer, cut it and did the headlights two days ago. It just cost $16.
I guess it's 20% vinyl, a little bit too dark. I was looking for something less dark, but that's what the dealer has.

Now, I am a little bit concerned about safety of night driving, will it be too dim?

Your ride just gets sweeter.

If the lights are too dim, use the fogs.

Looks great! But, you are only gonna get some light. I took the tint off mine after a short time. Seeing at night was more important to me than looking cool. Heck, I look cool enough without them! LOL!!

They are cool looking, but is that worth it for your and other motorists safety? Not in my book.

I just found this. I gotta test my headlights ASAP. Fortunately, I don't need to do any night driving these days.


The Michigan Vehicle Code requires head lamps to emit a white light, with "high-beams" of intensity to reveal persons and vehicles at a distance of at least 350 feet ahead, and low-beams of intensity to reveal persons and vehicles at a distance of at least 100 feet ahead. Since smoked headlamp covers change the color of light, and/or decrease their intensity below the requirements, they should not be used when headlamps are required to be on. However, smoked headlamp covers may be used when headlamps are not on, and not required.
MCL 257.686 requires a tail lamp to emit a red light plainly visible for at least 500 feet to the rear of the vehicle.
MCL 257.697 requires stop lamps to emit a red or amber light and be capable of being seen and distinguished from other lamps for a distance of 100 feet, including during normal daylight.
If the cover you apply prohibits the lamp from meeting these requirements then it is unlawful.

In Ca. it is illegal to tint the headlights and taillights. Weather or not the light show through.
