Parking in the boonies usually works for me, however, 8 out of 10 time I come out and the car is surrounded by others. Short of putting your HHR in a bubble, you just have to be careful where you park and even that doesn't guarantee it will be safe.

I've been very fortunate with mine and haven't had any problems so far. The way I look at it, is it isn't going to stay new forever, but I'm sure gonna try and keep it that way as long as I can.

 

What works for me is to take the mini van and leave my car in the garage . But seriously, like most others I park far away from others and take a walk. I need the exercise anyway.

 

At Wal-Mart, I tried to find a space with my right side next to the cart return. That way I can park further to the right and leave extra room on the driver's side. I'm usually shopping alone so no one has to get out of the right side. You could use the same strategy in parking garages.

I think the HHR is so much smaller than my minivan that I seem to have plenty of room, even if a large p/u or SUV is parked next to me. But I'm still selective on where I park.

 

Another idea is to park next to an island. Not only do you sometimes get a shade tree, you only have to worry about one side of the car.

Don't go to WalMart..... The absolute best place to get your car dinged!!

 

I have a handicap sticker for my daughter and usually can park in a blue spot where there is no chance of a door hitting my HHR. If we can't get a blue spot, I usually will drop off my passangers and park way out in the lot all by myself....

Seriously, I see on some veh. Chevy makes, like the Cobalt, they have a door strip, color matching, not bad looking, sometimes wish they would fit the HHR.
