Question Running boards/Assist Steps---Dealer Cost?

I looked at the Chevy Accessory webpage http://www.gmaccessorieszone.com/Che...1[type]=gm and the Assist Step painted are $485. The thing is the dealer I bought my HHR from has some owed to me stuff that they have to do. AKA stuff they have to fix. One thing is to fix the super chipped rear rocker. I have made to appts. to get them fixed twice. Both times their detail guy was out. It is about 1 1/2 hours round trip to the dealer. I'm a little pissed. So I suggested they order me the assist steps and ship them to me, instead of me driving there for a third time. So I would like to know dealer cost on these so I know how far of a stretch it is for this to happen. Thanks in advance, jimpennjr

Jim, Dealer just ordered a set for me, $329 for the running boards, $100 to color match paint, $100 to install. Chuck

I got $225-$250 from a member here for my SS flares.

I got my brand-spankin new black running boards (with brackets) off ebay for $120 shipped and installed them myself.

Running boards, 2 cartons of NH Marlboros & ~400 miles of 93oc was a fair trade.

Keep checking ebay

I don't have access to parts cost unless the part is charged on an open service repair order. But my guess is GM cost on the boards is around $270 - $290 and labor (retail) depends on their rate $80 -$110.

But I should say the sales manager is not negotiating from a GM cost basis. They will have to pay a mark up on the part from the parts department and service is not going to do the job at cost. Service and Parts don't do things for free with the sales department. You can say they are a customer of ours.
