Shopping for Clay
Shopping for Clay
So I decided to shop for a Clay Bar 'cause I've read so much good stuff here... (going to do my Wife's car)...
Since I have 3 bottles of Detail Spray, I was going to buy just the Clay...
Well--the Clay on Meguiar's website is $ 28.66 for a 200g bar (bar only)... Adams & Griot's are similar...
So I go into Wal Mart, and they have a "Clay Kit"--(16 oz. Quick Detailer, 2 50 gram Clay Bars w/case, 4 oz Cleaner Wax, and a Supreme Shine MicroFiber towel)--for $ 15.94 !!
I know I got less "clay"--but WTF--who would buy clay-only for nearly double the price as the "kit"???
Now I have 4 bottles of Detail Spray...
But I did buy about $20 of other items while in the store...

SargeChris - Wesmar out of Seattle also sells clay (or go to any auto paint store). This is the good stuff. If you order stuff from Wesmar - Get a case of Car Brite Xtra Duty Interior Cleaner. Not good on windows or shiny plastic but awesome on cleaning everything else - carpet, leather, cloth, plastic. Should cost you $5 a can this way. Sell it to your friends.
Sarge, clay bar is clay bar, it all does the trick. It is not like wax, where one is better than the other. You got a good deal! You don't even need quick detailer to use, just put bottled water in a spray bottle for the lubricant. Todd (Uma)

Paul - Clay barring is fairly straight forward. Use a spray (I like Quick Detailer), water, soap and water whatever - to lubricated the surfaces. Make sure you wash the car first. Then mist surface, and rub clay back and forth on surface. Clay may drag in a couple places, but don't worry - wax will take care of that. Do all horizontal flat surfaces than vertical flat surfaces. After I do this I like to use a polish (Meguiars New Car or Show Car Glaze works great), and finally a coat of Carnuba Wax w/no cleaners. Car will shine and be protected. Do this at least twice a year.
