To smooth, or not to smooth?
update........I've had things scheduled for my weekends recently, along with working crazy hours with the crappy weather. I hope to have it back in the car the 2nd week of december when I'm on vacation for my birthday. The funny part is the wife doesn't want to ride in it all tore up, but she still seems to plan stuff when I was going to work on it.
I'm up to my 3rd coat of paint. I've got some wet sanding and a few more coats of color then clear to finish it. The airbag pad is more of a rubber than plastic, so that's going to need some more work, and I haven't done the RPD yet because I have a few ideas I'm working on. Possibly adding a couple gauges, or possibly a gps. I scrapped the HUD idea I got when I saw the reflection of it on the windshield.

Since you're smoothing anyway, how about reskinning the airbag cover? Strip off what's there (I think the bottom of it with the clips is fairly rigid), and then build it back with hard plastic to shape, then hit it with some glass cloth for strength, then back to filler/paint.
Just add a handwritten note to the passenger sun visor that if the airbag deploys, it's gonna hurt like hell when it hits them in the face ;-)
