Suicide Doors

Has anyone tried to do "Suicide" doors on their HHR? A friend and I were discussing on just how cool it would look to do the suicide doors and shave the door handles off. I know it would be a lot of work but it would look good and be a lot easier to get in and out of the "car"

I don't know how many have actually done it, but I've heard it's pretty tough.
Here's a link to some photos of one:

I believe, there was discussion that it would be alright for a show car, but supports would need to be welded in, for continual use.

Well not only that. But rear portion of the body that the latch is on was "rolled and formed" just for that purpose. It wasn't designed to hang a door on. So, I'm guessing.... major support modifying is necessary.

I do think it would look neat, though (if it is done RIGHT).

Done right.. That's the keyword there.. On the Dark-Side HHR, it looks as though the back door doesn't open far enough for functionality and ease-of-use, but I really can't tell if they didn't open them far or whether it really only opens that much.

The biggest problem would be the huge wheel flare at the bottom rear end of the back doors. This would rule out the use of simple hinges, unless you cut out the flare edges into a "V" shape (for clearance)which would create a really awkward-looking joint there. Articulating hinges would work, but they would push the door forward as they opened, possibly striking the edge of the front doors. There are definitely no easy solutions for suicide doors. Gull-wing doors would be much easier!

the site is no longer in existence as far as i know. also i have hear an issue would be that there is not enough support on the back jam of the door to support a door.
