I would like to replace the upper red taillights with the ones with the white center lens.Has anybody done this before?Would they fit?I've seen a picture of a car with such a modification on the SoCal HHR home page clearly showing both tail lights with the white center.The reason for doing this is that I need to have yellow turn signals in order to register the car,and I think that could be achieved by putting a yellow bulb instead of the white back-up one.Thanks

 

Its not an easy installation, the top and bottom lights have a slightly different shape. You would have to reshape the lights or the metal body panel to get them to fit.
I think the euro HHRs have signals installed in the bumper.

 

Upper and lower tallights both with white center look strange imo.

If you need yellow blinkers you can go for the Euro HHR setup, which is what i have on mine. The lower clear backup lights use yellow bulbs instead and work as turn signals.

Plus there is an additional separate white light installed underneath the bumper for backup.

By the way i am about o change my setup to the original US version with red signals. Looks much better.
