Third Brake Light LEDs failed

I bought four multiple-light LEDs in March 2010 for my high-mount third brake light from:
Jacky Ng of Markham, Ontario Canada
at the following eBay listing:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...AQ:MOTORS:1123

The bulbs are listed as having a lifetime warranty. Well, I'm about to find out how good her warranty service is! All four worked fine when initially installed. I just noticed that only one works OK now. One is totally dead. Two others flash, and when I looked directly at them only some of the LEDs in the assembly actually light when the bulb is flashing. I wrote to the seller, and she told me to send them back to her in Canada for replacement, which I am about to do. I thought LED lights were so good that they would last longer than the life of the car! Am I the only one having this problem?

Yeah, now I know!

I had thought all LEDs were super reliable. However, I heard that Chinese factories manufacture to precisely the level of quality specified by the purchaser's price point. I guess this purchaser didn't want to pay much. In case the replacements fail, where can I get better quality third brake light LEDs in the future? I also prefer them to spread the light more instead of looking like single points. I thought that's what the ones I bought would do, since they each have multiple spots of light coming out, but they don't look that way from a distance.

I'd be wary of buying LED's from Ebay. I got my interior LED's from superbrightLED's.com. They're much more than the Ebay stuff but their quality is good.

You are correct. I spoke with an importer a couple of weeks ago, and he says that the Chinese factories frequently deviate from the engineering specs without consulting with the purchaser.

Progress Report

I have shipped the bulbs back to Canada at my expense. I will see what quality of merchandise she sends back, and report on initial and followup quality.

Often, the LED's are fine, but the solder connections on the circuit board fail.

superbrightleds.com is the BEST place to get any LED, IMHO

Bill & Ryan are always a pleasure to deal with and really are knowledgable about their products.
